The Kenneth Branagh origins pic, set to be released Christmas Day 2013, has been shooting in downtown Manhattan.

New photos have been released from the set of 'Jack Ryan', filming on location in downtown Manhattan.

The action-thriller from Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions, which is being directed by Kenneth Branagh, stars 'Star Trek''s Chris Pine as the hero of Tom Clancy's best-selling book series of the same name. The story follows how a young man becomes a CIA agent.

In the studio's newly released photos, fans get the first peek at Kevin Costner's role in the film. Costner will play William Harper, a red-white-and-blue American patriot and legendary CIA field agent who recruits Pine's Jack Ryan and becomes his mentor.

Keira Knightley will play the female lead in the film adaptation.

In the second photo released by the studio, Pine is shown crusing the streets of downtown Manhattan on a motorcycle. The cast and crew are currently shooting on location in NYC.

Four films have featured Clancy's Jack Ryan, and Pine will be the fourth actor to portray the character, following in the footsteps of Alec Baldwin ('The Hunt for Red October'), Harrison Ford ('Patriot Games', 'Clear and Present Danger'), and Ben Affleck ('The Sum of All Fears'). This is Jack Ryan's first return to the big screen in more than a decade.

'Jack Ryan' is set to be released Christmas day, 2013. Competition for next December 25 so far includes Ben Stiller comedy 'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty', from 20th Century Fox, and Universal's big-budget '47 Ronin'.
